And as I do, I’m finding my usage of the iPad has drastically increased in the last month. I can simply let the iPad mini do what’s it’s good at. I can do it if I need to in a pinch, but I don’t even think about using the device that way.Īnd with the lower price, I don’t feel like the iPad needs to be capable of absolutely everything in order to justify a place in my personal workflow. I don’t even think about sitting down to write with my iPad anymore because attaching a keyboard to a screen that small would be ridiculous. I couldn’t justify the high cost for a powerful “computer” I was going to primarily use as a notebook.īut the iPad mini has significantly improved my relationship with the iPad.įor one thing, the smaller size forces me to abandon some of the use cases that weren’t appealing to me anyway. I was starting to think that the iPad just didn’t have a place in my life anymore. Yes, it’s great for audio editing and taking sketchnotes, but I was increasingly hesitant when considering spending $1500+ on a new iPad (and accessories) if I’m not going to use it “the right way.” I felt like my use of it was only a small percentage of what it was made for, and I felt more and more resistance when trying to justify an upgrade based on my limited use. This left me in a weird place of not wanting to use my iPad for my “real work.” Even though I create sketchnotes videos every week, I felt like I was not using the iPad the way it was meant to be used. Even though iPadOS has advanced in recent years, I still want to use my Mac if I need to have multiple windows open at once (which I often do for a lot of my admin tasks). But given the choice, I’d rather use my clicky keyboard (or even my MacBook Pro).Īnother example is any kind of multitasking. I’ve had a version of Apple’s keyboard case attached to my iPad Pro since the original keyboard folio for the 10.5″ model, but I don’t enjoy writing on it. It is an absolutely screamin’ machine, and it’s kind of wild to think about how capable and powerful a thin slab of glass can be.īut over the years, I’ve discovered that being able to do something on my iPad and wanting to do something on my iPad have increasingly become two very different things for me. I’ve used some version of the iPad Pro from the moment it was released. I ordered one before the end of the event, and having used it for a month now, I have to say this is by far the most fun I’ve ever had with an iPad.Īnd more importantly, it has completely absolved me of my iPad guilt. New iPhones are cool and all, but this iPad mini seemed like it was tailor-made for how I was (and wasn’t) using my iPad Pro.

Alternatively, ask a friend to download a copy of the installer from the Mac App Store for you. If you happen to have access to a Mac that’s running an older version of macOS, log into the Mac App Store with your password and download the Mojave installer on that Mac. (Although we do have redirect links in the section above to each of the relevant pages on the Mac App Store.) However, when Apple introduced Mojave the Mac App Store changed, and these installers can no longer be searched for or found in the purchased section of the store. Prior to macOS Mojave’s arrival in 2018, the installers for the older macOS versions could be searched for or found via the Purchased tab (not that anyone has had to pay for a Mac OS X update for years). How easy they are to find will be determined by the version of macOS running on that Mac. If you are running an older version of macOS – or someone you know is – you should be able to easily find older versions of macOS and even Mac OS X in the Mac App Store. The older macOS might not support certain components in that Mac, for example. Usually, when Apple introduces a new Mac it will not be able to run the version of macOS that shipped before the one installed on that Mac. You may also encounter issues if you are trying to download an older version of macOS that your Mac cannot support. In that case, we suggest you try to download the installer via that link using an older Mac. This is an issue we are aware of that others have encountered, although we haven’t. However, if you are still finding that the link isn’t working you could try the alternative methods below.Īnother issue is if the link takes you to the correct page in the Mac App Store, but you see an Update not found error message when you try to download it. We’ve said above that in our experience usually the reason the above links don’t work is if you are browsing in something other than Safari, or if you have already got the Mac App Store open. If the Mac App Store links above aren’t working While the above versions of macOS will work with newer Intel-based Macs, the following versions are specifically made for Macs with Intel chips. How to download an older version of macOS for an Intel Mac

As the timeline updates with your search results, there are clusters or patterns of bars. The Timeline of events is a visual representation of the number of events that occur at each point in time. You will learn more about the Selected fields later in the tutorial. The display changes to show the event information column, the timestamp column, and columns for each of the Selected fields. Select the List option and click Table. The Selected fields from the Fields sidebar appear at the bottom of each event. If the event does not contain a timestamp, the indexing process adds a timestamp that is the date and time the event was indexed. When events are indexed, the timestamp in the event is extracted. Click the greater than ( > ) symbol to expand the display. Use the event information column to expand or collapse the display of the event information. The List display option shows the event information in three columns. In each event, the matching search terms are highlighted. The Events tab displays the Timeline of events, the Display options, the Fields sidebar, and the Events viewer.īy default, the events appear as a list that is ordered starting with the most recent event. Later in this tutorial, you will learn about the other tabs. In the early parts of this tutorial, you will work with the Events tab. The type of search commands that you use determines which tab the search results appear on. This search retrieves 427 matching events.īelow the Search bar are four tabs: Events, Patterns, Statistics, and Visualization. NOT clauses are evaluated before OR clauses. When evaluating Boolean expressions, precedence is given to terms inside parentheses. The asterisk ( * ) character is used as a wildcard character to match fail, failure, failed, failing, and so forth. Notice that you must capitalize Boolean operators. Click the Search icon to the right of the time range picker to run the search.Tip: Instead of typing the search string, you can copy and paste the search from this tutorial directly into the Search bar. Let's try to find out how many errors have occurred on the Buttercup Games website. When you type search commands, the Search Assistant displays command information. The Search Assistant is more useful after you start learning the search language. Your search history is retained when you log out. The Matching Searches list is useful when you want to run the same search from yesterday, or a week ago. The Search Assistant also returns matching searches, which are based on the searches that you have recently run.

These laptops are a low-cost solution for students and schools since they require less computing power to work with web-based applications. In fact, the G-Suite integrates perfectly with the Chromebook. This matching design can increase productivity for teachers and simplify the learning process for students. The creators of Office 365 and G-Suite designed these programs to integrate with their respective operating systems, Windows and Chrome. This missing selection slows down the creation of presentations, spreadsheets and documents.Ĭonsider the Devices Already in Place at Your School Templates: G-Suite offers far fewer templates than its competitors.Features: Since Google designed G-Suite for the cloud, the apps have less customizability and in-depth features than larger, offline alternatives. The programs are fairly user-friendly, but they do require a learning curve. UI: G-Suite's slide-out panels have many options with unclear directions. For example, Google Docs allows users to share a link so that teammates can edit and comment on a document in real time. Collaboration: The G-Suite is at the forefront of virtual collaboration.Security: The G-Suite offers age-based features and restrictions to meet regulatory statutes like the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).Size: Since the G-Suite works in the cloud, there is no storage space required on the computer. When it is not free, the software price is $4 per user per month. Cost: G-Suite offers most schools the software service for free.G-Suite has become the leader for quick, easy online collaboration across email, documents, spreadsheets and cloud storage. Google built the G-Suite with the online collaborative experience in mind and included the option to work offline. Speed: Office 365 offers advanced features, but these same features also cause slower load times and speed.Collaboration: Apps like Microsoft Word are excellent for offline editing but do not offer optimum performance for live collaboration. When integrating with low-cost, web application-focused laptops, this storage space makes a significant difference. Size: Although Office 365 desktop apps have a small file size, they are not entirely cloud-based, so the suite uses more storage space.Features: Office 365's offline features are typically more detailed and advanced than cloud-based software. Security: Office 365 has age-related features for students and regulatory compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).User interface (UI): The Office suite has a simplistic, user-friendly interface for beginners and advanced settings for power users. If it is not available for free, the software license costs $3.25 per user on a monthly basis. Cost: Office 365 is available for free at most educational institutions. Many of Microsoft's productivity suite programs have become household names known for their word processing, spreadsheet management and slideshow presentation. Now, Office 365 offers the option to work online. Microsoft originally built Office for the offline desktop experience. The Pros and Cons of Office 365 for Schools |
